Golly, Zee.
This is the kind of mystery that continually astonishes me. ABC News is a huge undertaking. It has media stars like Diane Sawyer, George Stephanopoulos, and David Muir, as well as many other big names in news, sports and entertainment. Among them is their beautiful meteorologist Ginger Zee. Here's the mystery. Recently Ms. Zee has had to cover all kinds of storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and floods: devastating disasters that left wreckage behind. But night after night, Ms. Zee continually refers to the "rem-a-nents". I find it amazing that nobody in that vast network has taken her aside and said, "The word is remnants. It's a two-syllable word." I wrote to ABC over a week ago and see no change, which suggests that they don't even read letters of complaint. On the other hand Diane Sawyer turns almost every two-syllable word into three syllables, so maybe it's a peculiar style of the network.
