Possibly a king maker, never a king.
"And therefore, since I cannot prove a lover
To entertain these fair well-spoken days,
I am determined to prove a villain
And hate the idle pleasures of these days."
William Shakespeare
I always liked this speech, but tonight I saw it in a different context. It made me think of Mitch McConnell. I wondered what could make a person so cold, so reptilian, so mean-spirited, so eager to crush the working people of American and deny them health services, a living wage and not only the pursuit but the achievement of happiness. Then it decided it was for many reasons. Mostly because he's an ugly man: jowly, watery-eyed, not a single attractive features. How bitter did that make him? Being born in Alabama with the first name Addison couldn't have helped. Then when he tried to be macho by joining the U.S. Army Reserve, he got an early discharge for optic neuritis, often associated with multiple sclerosis. He revealed how ardent an American patriot he is when he said we wanted to "make Obama a one-term president". He's now on his second marriage—amazing he got a first—and worth, by some reports, as much as $44,000,000. I guess now that he has his, he really doesn't care about anyone else. Yes, definitely, an ugly, ugly man in every possible way.
