One of the greatest time wasters in America is education. Not all education of course. To be civilized we must learn to speak English properly (though few do) and know Geography and History (though few do). But what a waste of time is algebra, geometry, and diagramming a sentence. (I have made my living as a writer and still can't identify the parts of speech.) Students should be able to spend more time with subjects that interest them or will be of use in life, not learning about something they will never use, much less understand. (How often have you used algebra?) How much better off everyone would be if grade school through high school taught such subjects as: Grocery shopping, Balancing a checkbook, Etiquette, Saving money, Basic plumbing, electricity, and home repairs. Also cooking, sewing and practical subjects that were only taught to girls. We waste so much time during the prime of our life, when are brains are working at their best, learning subjects we will never use. Tell me again, what exactly is a transitional verb?
