MORE BAD NEWS AND BAD NEWS COVERAGE.

Not only is the evening news not news anymore, but now it's not even new nonnews. Tonight, August 9, the news on all three networks did some repetitive coverage of the tragic water slide death of a 10 year old—a sad, unnecessary story that wasn't national news in the first place. But now that they have found a depressing pet theme, they eagerly provided coverage of a Ferris wheel disaster in Tennessee, in which three young girls fell from a faulty car. Yeah, we really needed to know about this local tragedy. Except for California fires, most of the news was taken up with who-cares Olympic coverage. Being jingoistic the networks constantly promote the Olympics as an event that brings the world together. It is, in fact, just the opposite: a costly, arrogant, aggressive, elitist "My country's better than yours" pissing contest.
