VERY FAR FROM FUNNY.

I have many friends who are major fans of Dave Barry. I admit he is very incisive sometimes, but I find his wit not always on target and often strained particularly as he gets older and more bitter. Like many talents, age seems to bring out a darker and less amusing side of him. His play Peter and the Starcatchers is surprisingly scatological always a sign of being desperate for a cheap laugh. But forgetting everything else he had a joke in this month's Reader's Digest, which I found incredibly offensive and very far from funny. Here is the joke. See if you think it's funny. "Scientists tell us that the fastest animal on Earth, with a top speed of 120 feet per second, is a cow that has been dropped out of a helicopter."

Am I weird to be very disturbed by the thought of a terrified animal tossed to its death as a cruel joke by
some heartless sadist.
