I hear that more and more people are having trouble sleeping, and I have a theory why. Once upon a time all mattresses were about the same thickness, about 10 to 14 inches. Then the bedding companies figured they could make more money by convincing customers that thicker was better. So suddenly there were mattresses of 20" and thicker. This meant of course fitted sheets that were much deeper and, of course, more costly. And they became the norm, making it hard to find old-fashioned fitted sheets for those shamefully outdated mattresses. So now all the people who are sleeping on their 10 inch mattresses but foolishly bought fitted sheets for much thicker bedding wake up to bunches of uncomfortable cotton that rode up in the night. No more nice taut sheets that helped guarantee a good night's sleep.
Note: One advertiser tries to convince viewers that they should change their mattress every eight years as has becomes twice as heavy from an accumulation of dead skin cells. Not only is this disgusting, it's absurd.
