Great news.

Recently while switching channels, I came across The Greatest Show on Earth.( The 1953 Oscar for  Best Picture should really be taken away from this awful film.) But that's beside the point. While watching for as long as I could stand, I found it disturbing to see the elephants so dominated, humiliated, and overworked. Elephants are among nature's most gentle, decent, family-loving animals. And, yes, they have long memories, proven by many cases where they have been separated for ages, then reunited and joyous at the reunion. Anyway, I am thrilled to learn that Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey will eliminate elephants from its shows in the coming years. Feld Entertainment, the parent company for this famous circus said they will phase elephants from its show by 2018, citing animal welfare concerns. I'm sure a company that so abused these gentle giants for so many decades was forced into the decision, but hurray anyway. Now let's hope the world goes after all those detestable bastards who are killing elephants. And be sure to speak up whenever you see items of ivory for sale. An elephant will thank you.
