Sour, dour, Mourdock.

One of the most pathetic things the Republicans do is trot out Nazi Germany every time they want to attack our president, our present government. The latest fan of this absurdity is Indiana State Treasurer, Richard Mourdock,  His premise seems to be that  "The people of Germany in a free election selected the Nazi party because they made great promises that appealed to them because they were desperate and destitute. And why is that? Because Germany was bankrupt," Being a Republican, and therefore a uber-pessimist he suggests that we are in the same position. Have these people ever read anything in-depth about the Nazi party or do they only know what they see on the History Channel? Have they considered that Germany was full of, well, Germans, while the United States is made up of many, many nationalities that cannot to be as easily manipulated as a single culture? Do they realize how politically complex the Nazi Party was, how intricate and labyrinthine, hardly the kind of simple philosophy that allows one to say, "Oh, they're just like the Nazis"? People like Mourdock are incredibly unsophisticated and unread. Maybe that's why his bid for the U.S. Senate in 2012 was so unsuccessful. I think he should just give up politics and rent lots of his favorite films like Where Eagles Dare and The Dirty Dozen.
