I don't get it. We are constantly told not to tell anyone our Social Security number as it could lead to identity theft and other frauds. Yet, so many businesses won't even deal with you unless you provide them with your Social Security number. I just tried getting my supposedly free credit report from Equifax (one of America's most annoying and intrusive companies) but when I wouldn't give my SS#,they completely shut down on me and kept repeating the same recorded crap over and over. How do you protect your Social Security number when every doctor, dentist, and credit insists on having it before they will provide you with any service?
