REDECORATING AMERICA.

RECWhy are we being so savage in the destruction of these "war memorials"? It's just as easy to remove the offending symbol and replace it with someone worthy. And American sculptors could use the work. Alabama must have statues of Helen Keller. Several states would welcome a tribute to Johny Appleseed. Every state has some famous person who is worthy of being on a pedestal. Replace an equine statue of a confederate soldier with a headless horseman in tribute to Washington Irving. Create statues for real persons like Zane Gray or fictitious heros like Paul Bunyan. Give our public statues a sense of humor. Or use it to honor a esteemed resident. All it takes is a new statue and a new plaque. The old symbol will be forgotten in no time.
