"THERE IS NO OTHER HAND."
There is no American I admire more than Stephen Sondheim whose work has given me more pleasure than any other artist. But I was curious about his political leanings which he doesn't broadcast frequently. Then I saw a printed interview he gave with a correspondent on how the U.S. has always "contained wildly diverging tribes..." which "...belonged to one nation." He then added,
"Then along comes this politician who is the standard bearer for divideness and hatred and all consensus falls apart." At this point the interviewer says, "On the other hand..." At which point Sondheim cuts him off with, "There is no other hand."
