When I was growing up, evangelicals were religious zealots who were super moralists who lived by the Bible, which they quoted often and forced their children to abide by. Mostly they were just pious.
Often they were strict sanctimonious disciplinarians who abused their children and spouses in the name of Jesus. To evangelicals there was no one more sinful than an atheist, a person who denied the existence of God, the basic truths of the Bible, the rules set down by Jesus. To evangelicals there were so many sins: adultery, homosexuality, taking the Lord's name in vain, not going to church, unmarried sex, pornography—the list was endless. Until Trump. Then it all changed. They no longer moralized against divorce, sex with hookers, cheating your neighbor, ignoring your debts, lying—the list was endless. It seems that atheist Trump couldn't do anything to offend most evangelicals. I say most because many realized he was the anti-Christ and reviled him. But the others, the true hypocrites, crowded into his rallies, sang his praises, and even marched in opposition to those who opposed him. And because of this loyalty and adulation for a totally ignorant, incompetent, and amoral charlatan, these evangelicals have shown themselves to be gullible infidels.
