Oh no! Not again!

Once again, I have lost my Comcast e-mail. It just suddenly doesn't work any longer. I can reply to messages I receive, but cannot initiate new ones. Now you might say I should call Comcast and see what the problem is. But that last time this happened—less than a month ago—it took 17 phone calls and two letters to home office before my e-mail was restored and then not as good as before, during which time my blood pressure rose to dangerous heights, and my love for humanity plummeted.  At 71, I don't have the energy to wait for Comcast to answer the phone, to answer all their endlessly repetitive questions, and to wait on line listening to crap music before I am unceremoniously disconnected. Especially when I do get in contact with someone at Comcast—usually an obsequious teenager in Mombia—they never know how to resolve the problem and are "most awfully terribly sorry".  So unless my friends write to me, they will never get an e-mail back. Of course miracles do happen, and it could be restored without my doing anything. But, really, what are the chances of that?

Let's face it: They all suck!

It is no secret that I detest Comcast as I detest all cable services for their greed and frequent incompetence. I could switch to AT&T or Dish, but they would be no better. Like all services they start out with a reasonable fee and gradually increase it. They're all despicable. And one of their most despicable ploys is the following. When they know they have screwed up your service somehow and while it is a neighborhood- or city-wide problem, they will never admi it. They try to make you feel that somehow it is your fault, the customer's. This afternoon I lacked Comcast's phone, cable and computer services for several hours because of their error. But this is what the tv legend read:

WE'VE DETECTED AN INTERRUPTION IN YOUR SERVICE.
PLEASE CHECK THE CONNECTIONS. IF THE PROBLEM
PERSISTS, PLEASE CALL COMCAST AT 1-800-COMCAST.COM
FOR SUPPORT.
